Dorsia Dinner in New York (the aftermath)

Our name comes from a fictional restaurant in the wholesome family romcom, American Psycho.  Dorsia is the name of a New York restaurant that the protagonist cannot get into, going as far as screaming its name when murdering someone.  The brand just oozes sanity.  So, it felt appropriate that our first ever get together was in New York. Not at Dorsia (still fictional, still fully booked), but at the very real—and very excellent—three Michelin-starred Le Bernardin.  Dinner lasted nearly five hours—which, under normal circumstances, is my personal vision of hell. But with this group, it could easily have gone on even longer.

The main idea behind this event—besides a thank you to our clients and enjoying very good food in even better company—was to start building a community for our clients. A space where like-minded travellers can connect, swap stories and compare notes.  And sometimes you just want to talk about your six-figure holiday without feeling like a monster. Ok, so we’re not going to get much sympathy from the Guardian for our plight, but we all have feelings too, don’t ya know. It can be quite triggering when the postman shows absolutely no interest in spending 20 minutes reviewing my photo gallery of Maldivian breakfasts.

This year has been phenomenal for us.  We’re growing quickly—well, as quickly as two people can when they’ve sworn never to hire anyone. Our client list keeps expanding, guided by one very simple rule: no arseholes. And minimum spends. But mostly the no arseholes bit.  And that means there’s more opportunities for our clients to meet.

We’re not chasing world domination—we sit firmly at the top, top-end of the market—but I do think we’re building something genuinely special. Possibly a cult. Actually, now that I say it out loud, definitely a cult.  But one I hope you’ll join.  No, that sounds even more cultish.

We’re planning another dinner in London and may have to venture out to the West Coast in the near future too as that has proven a very popular area for us this year.  I hope this gives more opportunities for this knowledge share and community to grow.
