News & Reviews News I am never going back to…

As I’ve got older, I’ve come to realise my “I’m never going to do X” declarations have become increasingly irrelevant.  I didn’t want kids until I was 34 and now I’ve got two.  In my defence, I’m still ambivalent about it.  I used to look at gym goers as brainless morons, yet last year built a home gym.  Well, I didn’t build it, but somebody did – I’m not that strong.  That’s why I need a gym.  I used to be against public floggings, and then, one day, I saw Boris Johnson’s face and suddenly saw the upside to them.  We all change.

In my reviews, I often mention whether I would return to a place, and that’s always my genuine feeling at the time. However, time does funny things to the mind. This year, we’re revisiting two of my favourite resorts – if by favourite I mean I endlessly rambled about them: Miavana and Soneva Jani.

Why, you may ask?  Well, I don’t want to hold onto an opinion that’s five years old.  Eight years ago I was hanging out in Russia, not quite the place to celebrate your birthday anymore.  Not unless you enjoy celebrating by playing a real life version of The Shawshank Redemption.  Things change.  I hear good things (not about Russia).  I’m prepared to give it another shot.  Also, the new hotel openings lately have been really boring.  And I’ve been everywhere.  So really this is your fault.  Yes, you.  You, reading this right now.  If you didn’t encourage me to endlessly travel everywhere, I’d still have places left, but instead I’m recycling old places.  Now I’m no better than Michael Cera, doing the same thing over and over again.

What’s next?  Giraffe Manor?  Lucie suggested our girls might love it. Someone punch me in the kidneys until I bleed out.
