La Residence Video Review

I’ve often thought it’s a shame that I get to visit some of the best luxury properties in the world, record video tours of them…and then do absolutely nothing with the footage. I also found it a shame to go somewhere incredible and spend half the stay trying to film it, because I am, objectively, terrible at videography.

But, in a rare moment of the universe not being a douchebag, someone randomly reached out back in January asking if I wanted to hire them for videography work. Which just so happened to be two weeks before I arrived in Cape Town, where she’s based. Beautiful serendipity.  That was in January, by the way, so as you can see, things really move at lightning speed around here.

And now, after endless edits and everyone involved doing their absolute best to make me look marginally less like a complete twat, here it is.  I hope they succeeded, anyway, because I genuinely haven’t watched it. I tried. Heard my own voice, saw my deeply punchable face appear on screen, and immediately tapped out. Couldn’t do it.

So I asked Lucie to watch it instead, and she said it made her fall asleep. Mission accomplished, I suppose. Encouraging signs for a future career in the ASMR industry if this travel thing collapses.

I didn’t want to do a 3-hour tour; I didn’t want to harp on about everywhere being the dogs bollocks; I wanted to offer an honest take, like on this site, and put it into video format.  But, like learning anything new, you start off being shit, slowly improve, and then eventually abandon all dignity and become a YouTuber. Inevitable. Welcome to my midlife crisis.

The plan is to give this a go for around 12 properties, see what sort of feedback comes from it, and assuming nobody issues any bomb threats against me, carry on from there.  I think the video format offers something different, and makes things clearer than photos alone.

Anyway, I hope someone enjoys it, even if it’s your spouse who suffers from insomnia, or you want to play it to someone in a coma, whom you deeply resent.
