The lowdown
Le Grand Jardin is a three-and-a-half acre estate on Island Saint-Marguerite, featuring 12 bedrooms distributed across seven structures, including three cottages, pool suites, a guest house, and an old fortress tower. This car-free island is only a 10 minute journey from Cannes, and can only be accessed via boat or helicopter. That’s one way to avoid traffic. It offers amenities such as a heated pool, private spa, and direct sea access. Being all-inclusive, you can get a pounding hangover, and then they can cure you – the wellness facilities include a hammam, sauna, treatment rooms, and serene outdoor spaces like a botanical garden and Koi pond.

Why did it make the list?
Because for all the hype around it, they’ve started to reduce the pricing so now mere semi-mortals can go there. Ok, it’s still a boat load of cash, but more along the lines of a yacht than a cruise ship type money.
What’s unique about it?
It manages to blend historical charm with modern luxury. Dating back to the 13th century, it has preserved its original features, making minimal external changes. Inside, the decor and amenities combine to create a luxurious, atmosphere that has an answer to every request. Did I mention the no cars? If you live in a city that’s your dream, if you live in the countryside that’s your version of being held captive.
