We should ignore the stupid name, but unfortunately that’s impossible. It’s a name so idiotic, even Google gives up halfway through the search. Yes, someone has decided to call their property HERE.
I can already picture the never-ending conversations.
“Would you like to go HERE?”
“Where’s here?”
“HERE.”
“I’m asking where, not for a riddle.”
“No, it’s literally called HERE.”
“You know what? Forget it, I’m off to Bognor Regis.”
Anyway, let’s try to focus on the positives.
I first heard about this project last year, but the details were so vague that I didn’t even bother writing about it. It had all the hallmarks of vaporware. Well, apparently not. It seems they’re actually building the place, unless they enjoy sponsoring shows for shits and giggles.
All I have to go on are some renderings, but as of right now, it looks like it could be pretty darn good.
Here’s the low-down:
- Just nine villas, spread across two private islands. They’re calling it the smallest luxury resort in the Maldives. According to my maths, that adds up. Kudadoo is 15 rooms and Soneva Secret is 14. Some day, long after we’ve passed, our children may get to live in a world where some genius will come up with zero rooms. What a world.
- It’s in Baa Atoll, which is one of the best places in the Maldives for diving. To help you get your bearings, that’s near The Nautilus and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru (and their private island offering, Voavah).
- They mention a “sister property,” Finolhu, which suggests it ain’t gonnan have the total seclusion of Soneva Secret—likely something more along the lines of Kudadoo, where another nearby property provides more facilities, but you can still feel its presence looming in the distance, like the eye of Sauron.
- Apparently no kids club, that’s on the sister island. So a resort built for families that doesn’t have a kids club. Ooook.
- The islands are pretentiously called Nowhere and Somewhere. Somewhere, someone, should be shot for that.
- Nowhere has just two villas on it: a five bedroom presidential villa, spanning 2,399 sqm with a two story living room, and a 930 sqm, three-bedroom ocean villa. Private chef, cinema rooms, private jetty, wellness centre, the lot. You can do a buyout of the island as well.
- Somewhere has five three-bedroom villas and two four-bedroom villas.
The concept is interesting, with every single accommodation a three-bedroom or larger. I’m not sure how well that is going to work out, unless they have some very good deals in place – and seeing what’s happened with The Nautilus and Kudadoo, that is very likely. Still, it’s always refreshing to see something different, and the small villa count might actually make this financially viable instead of an economic sinkhole waiting to happen.
If it opens before our usual December Maldives trip, I might just tack it on.
